FAREWELL SHARKS

REPORT BY DAVE JONES.
GREAT WHITE SHARKS 0 BIRMINGHAM FCE 8 (walkover)
FRIENDLY - GREAT WHITE SHARKS 7 UNDER ESTIMATED 10

THE season ended in the most disappointing way possible with the Sharks for the first time ever being unable to field a team and having to concede a game on a walkover.
Only Dee, Janelle and Hameeda turned up, so GWS could not fulfill their league game.
There was a friendly against Under Estimated, where a Sharks team was boosted by two other unnamed players, and the final score was 10-7 to champions UE.
I don't know the rest of the scores as Birmingham Futsal Arena appear to have removed any reference to the women's league already - why is anyone's guess.
I think the Sharks probably finished fourth or fifth but in the end it's irrelevant as the whole season has been a farce.
Sharks have not won a single game legitimately all season but because of their loyalty and the poor attendance record of other teams they have picked up enough 8-0 walkovers to stay up.
As far as I am concerned this is the end of the Sharks.
Whether the team carries on is not up to me, but I will not be continuing with this blog.
The team should have folded last season and gone out on a high after winning the Championship.
Our record scorer Vicky decided to take a season out and so should the team. They were always going to struggle at the higher level without a goalscorer like Vicky but they decided to carry on.
The results this season speak for themselves.
The league is, in my opinion, awful. The best team, Under Estimated, are also extremely loyal and deserved to be champions, but most of the other teams have pulled out of so many matches it has made the league a total joke.
If the Arena had any dignity they would wind it up, but of course they don't want to lose money so they continue to flog a dead horse.
Personally, I feel some of the Sharks have lacked commitment this season and we've all seen what's happened due to this.
I am not prepared to continue supporting a team which has been wonderful in the past, but has crumbled away in recent times through the apathy of some.
I've loved nearly every moment of covering the Sharks and my only regret is we didn't call it a day at the end of last season on a high note.
Best wishes and best of luck to all.

JANELLE HITS FOUR IN SHARKS DRAW

Camilla was an inspiration as always
REPORT by DAVE JONES

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 6 (Janelle 4, Salma, Camilla)
CUNNING STUNTS 6
BIRMINGHAM LADIES FUTSAL LEAGUE PREMIERSHIP - MARCH 25, 2015

IN their first season back in the Premiership the Sharks are fourth and safe from relegation.
Normally, that would be celebrated as a great achievement, but a closer look at the stats reveals what a farce the Premiership has become.
Of the Sharks five wins, four have been 8-0 walkovers (ie the other team not showing up), while the other was also a walkover but the friendly subsequently played, where Sharks beat Championship team Kings Heathens 11-1, became classed as a league game.
So you have a situation where a team has avoided relegation by not winning a single match on court against another Premiership side - dismal.
Of course on the other side of the coin, the Sharks proved what great supporters they are of the league by turning up for every match, even when short of players.
GWS deserved those 8-0 wins for supporting a league where other teams on many weeks cannot be bothered.
You have to ask, why is the Futsal Arena running two ladies divisions? Why not have one large division to ensure more matches are played each week?
The Arena is taking fees off teams who are not even getting a competitive match some weeks.
Rant over.....
Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, Sharks drew 6-6 in an exciting game against league newcomers Cunning Stunts (I keep taking great care when typing out this team's name).
The game started brilliantly for Sharks when goalkeeper Salma released a long ball which has headed into her own net by an opponent.
In reply, Cunning had a number of attempts on goal which were all stopped by Salma before one eventually found the net.
Stunts went 2-1 up but it was not long before Janelle smashed home a volley.
This boosted the Sharks' confidence and it was game on!
During play Aisha suffered a trapped nerve leaving her feeling uncomfortable but she still played her part in beautifully setting up goals for Camilla and Janelle.
The first half also saw Dee suffer an ankle injury when deflecting an opponents' shot.
Half time 4-3 to Sharks - a satisfactory score but the game was far from over.
The second half saw GWS show even more power with the main movements by Hayley, Janelle and Camilla.
Janelle was on fire and with 1.40 remaining she leveled at 6-6 with her fourth goal of the match.
Final score 6-6.
Salma said: "Both teams knew this was a tough battle and a great contest from start to finish! Superb, superb stuff last night team. Amazing game from start to finish - chasing the score to the wire!  We played with a team carrying injuries and still took a point.
"Sharks I love your dedication - just keep yourself fit girls and credit goes to Camilla who pointed out at half time we was about to give the game away! You really did wake us up and for once we controlled the game and got a score.
"We can do it when we want!! #Believe  xx"

FRIENDLY - MARCH 18
Under Estimated 6 Great White Sharks 3 (Janelle, Hameeda 2)
Dee reports....
The game was one of the best games we've had against Under Estimated in a long while.
It was open to us to win from the beginning. We dominated the first half with an amazing strong right foot goal from Janelle as she twisted and turned around their defence.
Under Estimated tried their very hardest to penetrate out defence but with a motivated and strong team we resisted hard by communicating and working hard to cover each-other's positions.
But through a minor slip from a left hand kick UE slid one through past our defence of which the keeper couldn't see coming
However this didn't deter us. Hameeda then through sheer perseverance wriggled past and defended the ball when we she almost lost it to push it in all the way past the keeper to give us her second walk in goal of the season (she literally walked in with it) from a clumsy attempted save from their keeper.
Throughout the whole first half. Every player passed and moved to create options for our team mates. And there were several attempts and almost every attempt a near miss which was very unlucky. But we all grasped at opportunity to try and score. Towards the end of the second half Hameeda carried on as strong as ever and a good pass from us sneak a blinder in. One that even the defence nor the keeper could see coming
Second half was a bit calmer and weaker. I think fitness gets the better of us. We slacked slightly in defence and let get Under Estimated get ahead 6-3.
It was unfortunate but it's a game we thoroughly enjoyed and it's one of the very few games where we were united as a team hence why we enjoyed it so much.

Camilla was our keeper for the game. And thanks to her great saves and motivational screams from the goal we feel we did well against the Premiership Champions.

WALKOVER WIN - FRIENDLY DEFEAT

Camilla scored a great goal

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 8 BIRMINGHAM FCL 0
(LEAGUE - WALKOVER)

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 1 (Camilla) STONE ARMY 10
(FRIENDLY)

ANOTHER shambolic night for the Premiership with just one match played and three walkovers.
Why do some teams even enter if they have no intention of fulfilling their fixtures?
Only two teams support the Premiership every week - Under Estimated and the Great White Sharks.
It is a shambles and needs addressing. Why have two divisions when so few teams bother to play? Might as well put everyone together to make for more actual games being played.

A walkover for the Sharks lifted us up to sixth. It now looks possible we might escape relegation without winning a proper game - what does that say for the league?

Tonight Sharks played Stone Army in a friendly and lost 10-1.
For almost all the first half Sharks had only four players - Salma, Aisha, Hayley and Camilla and they trailed 5-0 at the break.
Janelle arrived for the second half and the Sharks battled well. Camilla scored a brilliant goal, beating everyone in her path before firing in her eighth of the season.
After the match, captain Salma admitted not all is well in the camp.
She said: "My issue - my goalkeeping confidence has gone down. I save tough ones and let the roll-ins get past. Sharks issue - to get back and defend on the counter-attack and man mark."

Next week Sharks are down for a Birmingham Vacancy fixture so another 8-0 walkover is on the cards. Oh joy!

ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKING FUTSAL EVENT IS ON THE WAY!

IT'S been two years since Sporting Pathways and MAD Productions brought to the city of Birmingham the second of two unique Futsal events.
Why was it and its predecessor both unique? Because they were record-breakers!
In 2012, Salma Bi, a champion for women's sport, organised the first-ever Women’s 10-Hours Non-Stop Futsal Event at the Birmingham International Futsal Arena.
The game totaled over more than 100 goals, and its success convinced Salma to return a year later and attempt an even bigger record - the ‘Return of Revenge Tour’ - which saw women come together and compete in a 20-Hour Futsal World Record Marathon.
Now we are in 2015 and after introducing over 300 women to the sport of futsal, hosting eight other sports tournaments including cricket and dodgeball, as well as raising money for various charities, Salma has announced her latest plan - a women-only 30-Hours Futsal World Record Event which will take place on April 4 and 5, 2015.
This event will be the toughest to date and will require women from all over the country to compete and complete another world record.
The non-stop futsal marathon is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 4, at 12am and finish on Sunday, April 5, at 7pm.
Salma also represents the Great White Sharks, a futsal team which first made history as the first Asian team in Birmingham League. They won the Championship title last season.
Now the Sharks and friends collecting names for the forthcoming 30-Hour Futsal Marathon.
"This event has come back due to the high demand from women across Britain wanting to compete at a high level and break records," said Salma.
"We are now recruiting players and encourage women to register their teams ASAP to avoid disappointment."
The event is open to women over the age of 14 and registration fees are £50 per player.
As always this event will also be fundraising for a charitable cause.
This year's national Asian Cricket Award winner Salma and husband/head teacher Sohail Mughal wish to build a school for orphan children in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
The money raised will be to help build the Zain-Ul-Abideen Public School.
Salma went on to say: “We need unlimited players of all abilities and women that are set to make history as well as achieve their personal goals.
"We are also looking for businesses to either sponsor or set up stalls at the event and anyone interested should contact us direct”.

So what are you waiting for?! Sign up Now & Join the Force of Women in Sport!!

Footnotes:
·         The event will take place in Birmingham Futsal Arena B19 2LF on Saturday 4th April to Sunday 5th April 7pm.

100 GOALS FOR AISHA!

Aisha has reached 100 goals for the Sharks

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 3 (Aisha 2, Hayley)
FC BALLERS 6
SEASON 4 - PREMIERSHIP - 2014/15

ALTHOUGH the Sharks finished up losers on Wednesday, it was a special night for Aisha Bi as she reached 100 career goals for the team.
Aisha netted twice in a 6-3 defeat against last season's Championship title rivals FC Ballers, recent signing Hayley also continuing her good form with a goal.
A big game against big rivals and Sharks arrived well prepared.
Hayley, as per usual, shocked the opposition and pulled off a surprise shot which was turned into the net by Aisha's boot.
Ballers did push forward and battled well, scoring some vital goals to put them in command.
However, Aisha did manage to work the ball through and score goal number 100 for GWS.
Half-time saw the Sharks 5-2 down and they knew they had to improve.
The second half saw GWS battle hard, Camilla and Dee making brilliant passes and Hameeda ran riot with his pace and enthusiasm.
Hayley scored with a brilliant shot - a well-deserved goal!
Ballers edged forward to score their sixth and secure the win, but Sharks maintained the pressure till the end.
Salma said after the match: "A well-fought game, perfect attitude and another proud moment knowing we all worked as one unit right to the end."
Team: Salma, Hayley, Dee, Aisha, Camilla, Hameeda.

SHARKS WIN ON WALKOVER - THEN IMPRESS IN FRIENDLY!

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 8 BIRMINGHAM FUTSAL CLUB ELITE 0
(Premiership Season 4 2014/15 - WALKOVER)
SHARKS 5 (Camilla 2, Hayley, Dee, Aisha) FC BALLERS 10
(friendly match)

WITH Birmingham FC Elite not showing up Sharks accepted another 8-0 walkover and moved up to fifth in the table.
The league is becoming a shambles again with one of the four matches completed on Wednesday night.
Sharks were eager for a game so accepted a friendly against big rivals FC Ballers, who took an 8-0 win themselves as Birmingham Futsal Club did not turn up.
GWS began with a boom, but Ballers scored first before Hayley smashed in an equaliser.
Sharks picked up the pace and scored a beauty through Camilla to edge 2-1 up.
Ballers hit back with a leveler but Dee made it look too easy by fooling the goalkeeper and scoring to make it 3-2.
It was soon 3-3 and a couple of errors from Sharks allowed Ballers to lead 5-3 at half time.
In the second half the Sharks produced more aggression with Aisha using all areas of the court and mixing up the passes.
Corners allowed Aisha to score from a header and Camilla from a kick.
Shortly after a few slip-ups and gaps from GWS allowed the opposition to get ahead and Ballers eventually won 10-5, but this never dampened the Sharks spirit.
Salma said afterwards: "A brilliant game tonight where the Sharks showed what they are made of."
