SECOND LEAGUE DEFEAT FOR THE SHARKS

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 6 (Vicky 4, Dee, Aisha)
ABCDE FC 9

Ladies Futsal League - Season 3 2014 - Championship

THIS was a disappointing defeat for Sharks whose lead at the top of the league was cut to three points.
GWS were missing Camilla tonight but top scorer Vicky was back.
Sharks made a poor start and found themselves 4-1 down.
Even after Salma making saves the opposition still had players backing up and finding the net.
However, it was a nightmare for the goalkeeper tonight and despite an improved second half performance it ended 6-9.
Vicky hit four, Aisha and Dee one each.
Salma said: "The second half was much better in strategy and game play but we didn't do enough to chase down the lead.
"Unlucky tonight team - bit odd whole game. Well done for a battling second half but apologies on my errors! "This defeat has got us in a sticky place for games to come."
Next week Sharks play Kings Heathens, who got a win on Wednesday night themselves.

HERE COME THE GIRLS!

IT'S been two years since Sporting Pathways and MAD Productions brought to the city of Birmingham two unique Futsal events.
Why were they unique? Because they were record-breaking events!
In 2012, Salma Bi, a champion for women's sport, set up the first ever Women’s 10-Hours Non-Stop Futsal Event.
The game totalled over more than 100 goals, and the success of the event convinced Salma to return a year later and set up an even bigger record - the ‘Return of Revenge Tour’ - which saw women come together and compete in a 20-Hour Futsal World Record Marathon.
Now three years on and after introducing over 300 women to the sport of futsal, hosting eight other sports tournaments including cricket and dodgeball, as well as raising money for various charities, Salma Bi has announced a women-only 30-Hours Futsal World Record Event which will take place on April 4 and 5, 2015.
This event will be the toughest to date and will require women from all over the country to compete and complete this world record!
The non-stop futsal marathon is scheduled to begin Saturday, April 4, at 12am and finish on Sunday, April 5, at 7pm.
Salma, who also represents the Great White Sharks, a futsal team which first made history as the first Asian team in Birmingham League are heading to London for the National Qualifying Games in March, said: "This event has come back due to the high demand from women across Britain wanting to compete at a high level and break records. We are now recruiting players and encourage women to register their teams ASAP to avoid disappointment."
The event is open to women over the age of 14 and registration fees are £50 per player.
As always this event will also be fundraising for a charitable cause.
This year's national Asian Cricket Award winner Salma and husband/head teacher Sohail Mughal wish to build a school for orphan children in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
The money raised will be to help build the Zain-Ul-Abideen Public School.
Salma went on to say: “We need unlimited players of all abilities and women that are set to make history as well as achieve their personal goals.
"We are also looking for businesses to either sponsor or set up stalls at the event and anyone interested should contact us direct”.

So what are you waiting for?! Sign up Now & Join the Force of Women in Sport!!

WALKOVER IN LEAGUE - SUPER SHOW IN FRIENDLY

Aisha scored a hat-trick v Bilbrook

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 8 THE FLY AWAYS 0 (LEAGUE WALKOVER)

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 7 (Aisha 3, Camilla 2, Dee, Hameeda)
BILBROOK 7 (FRIENDLY)

THE Sharks were given a walkover after The Fly Aways really did fly away by making themselves unavailable for their league game.
Sharks played a friendly versus Premiership Bilbrook which presented a good challenge.
GWS were missing prolific top scorer Vicky, so Hameeda made a welcome return after recovering from an injury. First half saw a good steady start, all players making passes and keeping the pressure on,
Sharks were 6-3 down at half time, Camilla scoring one and Aisha two, both netting good goals to keep GWS in the game.
The second half was a must-watch!
The Sharks upped their game, scoring back to back goals and keeping the ball out really well.
Dee, as always, was blocking out good passes, Aisha busy and creating pressure, Camilla held position well whilst Hameeda spread herself out, causing havoc.
Final score was 7-7 with Aisha (3), Camilla (2), Dee and Hameeda scoring one each.
Salma said: "A beautiful game tonight. From start to finish we played brilliant futsal!
"Very proud of tonight's performance and result Team Work makes the Dream Work."

FIRST LEAGUE DEFEAT FOR SHARKS

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 5 (Vicky 3, Dee, Camilla)
FC BALLERS 9
FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP - OCTOBER 15, 2014

Big Game Tonight!
The Sharks came prepared and got in the flow of things.
Ballers netted their first which was equalised by Vicky's first goal.
Dee pushed on well when required and found herself scoring a brilliant goal.
A goalkeeping mishap allowed the opposition get ahead and by half time Ballers were 6-2 up.
In the second half Sharks were battling well.
Vicky completed her hat-trick and Camilla also got on the scoresheet, but Ballers added three more to seal the win.
Four goalkeeping errors and a corner which nobody was aware allowed the opposition take the victory.
However, on a positive note good futsal was played by all and a good challenge was set.
Sharks lost but deserved to be closer in the scoreline.
This was Sharks' first league defeat but they remain top of the table.

GOAL MACHINE VICKY TALKS ABOUT THE SHARKS!

AFTER scoring her 200th goal for the Sharks recently we thought it would be a good idea to ask our star striker VICKY ROE about her experiences with the team.

1 WHY DID YOU FIRST JOIN THE SHARKS IN JANUARY 2013?
I joined the Sharks after being poached by them! Salma thought I had more potential than just being in goal for the Late Arrivals and after Nazma, a former Shark, nearly knocked me out once I thought it was a safer option to play for them than against them lol.
In joining the Sharks I've found the best team mates I could ever have wished to find!

2 DID YOU EVER THINK WHEN YOU FIRST JOINED YOU WOULD SCORE 222 GOALS IN ABOUT 85 GAMES?
I never imagined I would score so many and even now still can't believe I'm on goal number 222! However, none of those goals would of been possible with the help of all of the Sharks, they all assisted in one way or another.

3 YOU BROKE YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL CLUB RECORD ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, WITH 18 GOALS IN A GAME. WAS YOUR PERFORMANCE ANY BETTER THAN USUAL OR WAS IT JUST THE FACT SO MANY CHANCES CAME ALONG?
My performance wasn't better or any worse than any other games I've played, I had some great assists from Aisha, Dee, Camilla and Salma and just took the chances as and when the opportunities presented themselves.

4 LAST SEASON WAS THE SHARKS' WORST. YOU FINISHED BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE AND TOOK SOME HEAVY BEATINGS. HOW DIFFICULT AN EXPERIENCE WAS THAT?
Last season was particularly difficult and not only was the Sharks' confidence knocked but my confidence was at rock bottom too. However, we win as a team and lose as a team and this is what I love about the Sharks - we stick together no matter what! We may have been at the bottom but the only way from down there was up and this is the only direction we are going this season.

5 THIS SEASON YOU HAVE DROPPED A LEVEL AND ARE WINNING FOR FUN. HAS THIS CHANGE BEEN BENEFICIAL FOR THE SHARKS?
Even though we have dropped a level I think as a team it is something we needed. We have regrouped, found our feet, regained our confidence and are enjoying our football again which we were somewhat lacking last season after being heavily defeated time and time again.

6 IF YOU GET BACK UP TO THE TOP LEAGUE, DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE STRONGER AND MORE COMPETITIVE?
There is no if's about getting to the top of the league we 'are' going to win the league this season! We have always been a competitive side and we know there are stronger teams than us out there but we also know as a team we are capable of beating anything the league throws at us which is what we have proved in the past.

7 SHARKS SEEM TO HAVE A SETTLED SIDE THIS SEASON AFTER A COUPLE OF SEASONS OF CHOPPING AND CHANGING. HAS THIS HELPED YOU AS A TEAM?
I believe we are more settled as a team as we are now fielding the same five players each week. Chopping and changing in my opinion never really helped or suited us as a team and I believe the results themselves reflect this.

8 ARE YOU STILL PLAYING WEEKEND OUTDOOR FOOTBALL AND IF SO, HOW IS THAT GOING?
I play as a central defender for Solihull Ladies and I absolutely love it! It is such a contrast from a Wednesday evening going from goal-scorer to goal defender but it certainly keeps me on my toes!

9 WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL AMBITIONS IN FUTSAL/FOOTBALL AND YOUR AMBITIONS FOR THE SHARKS?
My ambition for the Sharks is to continue to go from strength to strength, win this league and continue to progress up the league next season.
My personal ambition is just to continue to play to the best of my ability. Football is something I love and I don't think I will ever lose the passion for the game!

10 WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS TOWARDS YOUR MULTI AWARD-WINNING CAPTAIN SALMA BI?
Salma is an absolute inspiration to The Sharks and sport in general. Without her and Gemma Smith initially I would never have been given the opportunities to meet so many amazing people and take part in so many activities raising money for such good causes. Futsal 30 hours here we come.........

VICKY SCORES 18 IN HUGE WIN FOR SHARKS!

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 21 (Vicky 18, Aisha 2, Camilla 1)
KINGS HEATHENS 2
FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP - OCTOBER 1

VICKY ROE scored an individual club record 18 goals in a match as Sharks almost equalled their biggest-ever victory on Wednesday night.
The 21-2 demolition of Kings Heathens nearly matched the Sharks's previous best win of 21-1 against the Mighty Chicks in 2013.
As for the ROED-Runner, she moved on to 49 goals for the campaign - her highest-ever total in a season already with halfway not yet even reached.
The first half saw the girls make hard work of simple shots and missed crucial opportunities.
Having a big target on their minds affected them getting started but once they found some rhythm time was ticking.
The end of the first half saw GWS lead 7-1, Vicky netting six and Aisha once after much persistence.
The second half saw real hunger in the girls as they realised how average their display in the first.
Dee created some brilliant play tonight, moving the ball up and winning possession almost at every opportunity.
Camilla kept the game at ease with her clever passing and moving, Aisha pushed on more up front, tricking the opponents into asking for the ball but pushing for more assists that helped Vicky smash goals galore.
The second half saw the Sharks net 14 giving a final result of 21-2 - Vicky 18, Aisha 2 and Camilla 1.
Team captain and goalkeeper Salma said: "Decent effort team!! We maintained perhaps from 40% to 80% after a first half of 8-1 with a 21-2 finish :)
"Satisfactory and you know this girls! League winners need to win each game with confidence not frustration.
"Focus for next game team - as you can see each team is improving per game - well done x"
