VICKY SMASHES SEVEN AS SHARKS HIT DOUBLE FIGURES!

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 10 (Vicky Roe 7, Saddiqa Shan 3)
BEES 1
NATIONAL WOMENS FUTSAL FA CUP QUALIFYING LEAGUE - 29.1.2014

DESPITE only having four players the Sharks produced a fantastic performance in a double-figure blitz of the Bees.
Previous matches between these teams have nearly always been close, but on this occasion the Sharks were in a different class.
The opposition made the ideal start when a misunderstanding between goalkeeper Salma and defender Farzana led to the Bees nipping in to score.
However, the Sharks meant business tonight with great passing, shots on target and better possession.
GWS struck seven goals before half time, Vicky notching four and Saddiqa a superb hat-trick.
Looking confident going in the second half, even better play was to come from the Sharks with excellent goalkeeping and brilliant comebacks when required.
The Sharks kept the Bees well away from any scoring chances and Vicky went on to on score another three goals, giving GWS a brilliant boost to their goal difference and moving them up to fourth in the league.
Note: Was good to see four of the five scheduled matches go ahead tonight - only one walkover.
Team: Salma Bi, Farzana Hussain, Vicky Roe, Saddiqa Shan.
Sharks also played a ruthless friendly versus new team Continental Stars and won 9-8.
Goalscorers: Vicky Roe 1, Farzana Hussain 3, Jade Lapthorne 1, Berni Mulcahy 1 and Saddiqa Shan 3.
Note: Jade and Berni are not regular players for the Sharks but they helped out on the night.

FIRST THREE POINTS - WITHOUT KICKING A BALL

Vicky has scored 123 goals for Sharks!

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 8
VACANCY 1 BHAM 0
(WALKOVER)
NATIONAL WOMENS FUTSAL FA CUP QUALIFYING LEAGUE - JAN 22, 2014
WITH their opponents unable to fulfil the fixture Sharks were handed an 8-0 walkover win.
GWS played Stone Army in a friendly and lost 5-1.
Having drawn 4-4 with Stone the previous week, it was interesting to play the same opposition back-to-back.
A steady paced game saw Stone lead 2-1 at half time, Vicky Roe scoring for Sharks to make it 123 goals for her since she joined the team in January 2013.
The Sharks seemed slightly below par tonight.
Vicky missed a one-on-one chance with the keeper, Aisha hit one just wide, Dee was cut off and Farzana was at times left defending against two rather than one.
Goalkeeper Salma didn't manage to keep many out and in the second half Stone Army produced the better passing and finishing to run out 5-1 winners.
With nothing on the game, however, Sharks may well have been saving their best for next week's clash with the Bees.
When the big occasion arises The Sharks will bite.

DEE SAVES THE DAY!

Dee equalised for the Sharks with a cracker

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 4 (Aisha 1, Vicky 2, Dee 1)
STONE ARMY 4
NATIONAL WOMENS FUTSAL FA CUP QUALIFYING LEAGUE - JAN 15, 2014

MIGHTY Dee scored a late screamer to salvage a point for a Sharks team anxious to bounce back after their opening night 14-0 defeat.
Using the smaller-sized pitch at the Birmingham Futsal Arena, it certainly made for a lively game.
Aisha netted the opening goal in the early stages, a clever tackle creating the chance for her to score.
Not too far behind Vicky executed the goal of the night to make it two-nil.
All the Sharks were doing extremely well at this stage, but Stone Army pulled one back from a corner.
Sharks looked strong with a good tempo, but a loose ball allowed Stone to grab their second and make it 2-2.
At the start of the second half Aisha played on (as you would) and scored a comfortable goal.
However, the referee (yes, we all know who) blew the whistle claiming a Stone player was down in the Sharks area and disallowed the goal.
This player left the pitch then returned within seconds of a substitution, but no action was taken.
Poor sportsmanship but this didn't stop the Sharks.
Vicky scored again, but Stone levelled once more, scoring off the angle.
The final 10 minutes were crucial for both teams.
Stone got ahead with another powerful goal, putting Sharks behind for the first time.
But then mighty Dee-namite scored a screamer, making it 4-4.
The Sharks pushed hard to find that winning goal but the odds were against them and it ended a draw.
Both teams took a point apiece, nevertheless a better performance by the Sharks tonight.

SEASON 1 - 2014: NIGHTMARE START FOR SHARKS

THIS season the Great White Sharks will compete in the NATIONAL WOMEN'S FUTSAL FA CUP QUALIFYING LEAGUE.

There are 10 teams: Under-Estimated, Bayern Neverlusen, Great White Sharks, Birmingham Futsal Elite Ladies, Stone Army, Birmingham Futsal Club Ladies B, Toe Pokers, Birmingham Futsal Club Ladies, Vacancy 1 Bham and Bees.

Opening night results (Jan 8, 2014) were:
Under Estimated 6 Bayern Neverlusen 7
Great White Sharks 0 Birmingham Futsal Elite Ladies 14
Stone Army 7 Birmingham Futsal Ladies B 2
Toe Pokers 0 Birmingham Futsal Ladies 8
Vacancy 1 Bham 0 Bees 0

Even on the first night, it appears there were two non-fixtures. What hope for the rest of the season when you get this on the first evening?

GREAT WHITE SHARKS 0
BIRMINGHAM FUTSAL ELITE LADIES 14
A DISASTROUS start to the new season for the Sharks.
The first five minutes were dominated by GWS, who are wearing black this season.
They managed a few shots on target but no result.
Bham Elite were more effective with their passes and were 4-0 up by the end of the first half.
A good score to chase with Sharks only thinking positively, however Bham Elite proved why they are previous national winners with constant passing and gameplay, going on to win 14-0.
A bad day in the office for GK Salma. Returning after a three-week break, the Sharks looked rusty and unsettled.
This however did not stop them from playing a friendly vs Bham A. Facing less of a challenge, Sharks produced a much better composed game.
Sharks lost 9-5, with Vicky scoring four and Dee one. Nevertheless, Aisha and Farzana's efforts did not go unnoticed.
This was a big step for the Sharks to climb, but they know all teams will play just as good to give them any chance to qualify.
The Sharks must prepare properly to maintain the respect they've earned in previous seasons.
